Ey, oldie!

What does ‘ageing’ actually mean, and how do you want to ‘grow old’ in the future?
In the exhibition ‘Ey, oldie! Desirable futures of ageing’, visitors gained insights into different conceptions and perspectives on ageing. Facts and figures informing about the topic from different angles were displayed together with a collection of individual desirable futures.
  • 30m²

The installation was built in the form of a wooden spiral, with which visitors could interact in different ways.
  • 2 years

‘Ey, oldie!’ was part of the Waterkant Festival’s exhibition in 2022 and 2023.
  • 10,000 visitors

Almost 10,000 people were able to engage with the exhibition during the course of its showcasing.
Ageing has a bad reputation – and that is despite the overwhelming evidence that humans will live longer and healthier lives than ever in history. Riddled with stereotypes, ageing is mostly defined and conceptualised in terms of ‘decline’. We will be weaker, lonelier and generally sadder. But what if we tried to change our perspective towards it? What if we invest time in thinking how we want to live our very own tomorrow? Why not start by reimagining our own futures of ageing in a positive light?
